Hideout At Home | Maria Stein, Ohio

A cozy night in has never been so easy. With a full kitchen and bar, pool table, fireplace, large screen tv, a lush velvet banquette, and a bathroom… why would you ever go anywhere else? This at-home getaway design was meant to be accommodating and luxurious – welcoming family and friends into a space flexible enough for any gathering you can dream up.

OBJECTIVES

The Revival team took our client’s vision for an elevated design, perfect for entertaining family and friends, and turned it into a swanky hideout at home. Our team of architects drew up plans to ensure our clients felt like they were entering a relaxing retreat as they walk down the stairs.

APPROACH

At over 1,400 square feet, this basement remodel is practically a full living space on its own. It features a full-size kitchenette and wet bar topped with quartz countertops — full of dramatic veining which flow beautifully across the bar surface and waterfall down the side of the casework. This stunning piece took immense engineering and collaboration between the designer and fabricator to ensure the veins lined up to give a natural return to the floor.

The curved, lush banquette with velvety upholstery provides a swanky hospitality lounge vibe where visitors can sip their cocktails. Our designers had to strategically select and place lighting within the banquette to ensure clear sight lines for our tall homeowners. The tray ceilings, rounding out around the banquette, provided the perfect opportunity to hide cove lighting, following the perimeter of the space.

The family room has a comfortable seating area with recessed casework adorned with art, a ten-foot-long fireplace, and a projecting TV display that sits perfectly centered on the wall. The sleek, modern aesthetic, moody wall colors and pops of jewel tones provide the perfect space to cozy up and enjoy hiding out at home. In between the kitchenette and family room, atop lovely Duchateau flooring, is a pool table for anyone in the mood to strike up a game.

This hideout at home also includes its own dedicated bathroom, with Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring, a shower, and a complimentary color scheme. The walk-in shower features a black herringbone wall tile with a soft matte texture, recalling the weave of printed canvas. The vanity wall tile displays a unique composition of stones, cut in irregular stripes to form a complex mosaic, conjuring imagery of stained glass and abstract art.

RESULTS

A break from the ordinary, this home renovation is designed to be uniquely comfortable. Filled with striking design choices and luxury features, this basement escape is a place where friends and family, old and new, can gather to settle in, kick back, and hide away.
